In traditional reverse osmosis (RO) or thermal (MSF/MED) desalination process, the brine with 2 times of raw seawater concentration will be discharged back to the sea. To further concentrate the brine, the whole water production will be increased with optimal capital and operational investment. Especially for thermal desalination plants, the brine are scale minimized and significant pre-heated, which is the ideal feed water for Memsys V-MEMD process to produce more valuable water production. So Retrofitting existent RO or thermal plants with Memsys system will benefit the whole desalination process.

Brine in inland groundwater desalination

For inland groundwater desalination, brine from last desalination process (or raw groundwater) must be properly organized. Well injection, evaporation pond and ocean discharge are possible options but all with environmental damages and high construction costs. Minimizing the discharge of the waste is the most viable and economical way, Memsys V-MEMD technology is a sustainable and energy saving technology for inland desalination process.

Memsys have been collaborating with many industrial partners and institutes to develop the processes of brine concentration. Our systems and plants are located in the middle east, USA and other arid and semi arid regions.
